Field Rescue Coordinator

The owners of Second Home Pet Resort are very committed to animal rescue and humane trapping of animals in need, and these rescued animals often require extra medical and behavioral attention and care. We are looking for someone experienced in hands-on animal welfare to help coordinate all field rescue activities related to these animals.

This job is part-time and “intermittent”, meaning there are no regularly scheduled hours - a perfect situation for someone who would like to earn extra money on the side or after work! It is unlikely that weekly hours would exceed 5-8 per week. Must have a cellphone and be reachable quickly and available to respond during late nights and weekends.

Pay Rate: $11.00+ per hour depending on experience plus mileage reimbursement at $0.20 per mile when traveling to locations other than the pet resort

Duties include transporting trapping and rescue equipment to the scene, setting or installing humane traps of various types, setting up and monitoring trail cameras, monitoring live traps, transporting trapped animals to the pet resort or other animal welfare partners, assuring newly-trapped animals are transferred to a comfortable and secure suite upon arrival, and other duties as assigned by management. Attendance at and completion of a mandatory humane trapping workshop on July 29 is required for this position.

Candidates must be able to respond on relatively short notice to animal rescue, trapping or transport situations, which almost always occur between dusk and dawn and often on weekends. Prior experience as a shelter staff member, animal control officer, veterinary technician or similar experience is required.   Must be compassionate, patient, be very comfortable with handling and interacting with all types of companion animals, including shy and under-socialized dogs, be able to lift up to 60 pounds to waist level, and have good physical stamina for field rescue which could include short hikes, carrying traps and equipment, etc. Will require a true heart for rescue and helping those animals who have no advocates or family. Candidates should ideally live within a 15-minute drive of Second Home Pet Resort in order to be able to respond on short notice; an extremely flexible schedule is required during evening, late night and early morning hours. Candidates must also have their own car and be able to transport animals in a crate or trap in their vehicle. Must have a clean, insurable driving record.

The staff really do love animals and it makes me feel secure knowing my dogs are treated the way I treat them.
