Xylitol is a sweetener that\u2019s been used in everything from gum, toothpaste, and baked goods to candy and diet foods. \u201cIt can cause your dog\u2019s blood sugar to drop and can also cause liver failure,\u201d according to the article, \u201cSlideshow: Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat,\u201d at WebMd.com. \u201cEarly symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, and coordination problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A list of other toxic foods your pets should avoid include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Avocado<br \/>\n\u2022 Alcohol<br \/>\n\u2022 Garlic and onions<br \/>\n\u2022 Caffeine drinks such as coffee and tea<br \/>\n\u2022 Raisins and grapes<br \/>\n\u2022 Milk and dairy products<br \/>\n\u2022 Macadamia nuts<br \/>\n\u2022 Chocolate<br \/>\n\u2022 Persimmons, peaches, and plums<br \/>\n\u2022 Raw meat, fish and eggs<\/p>\n<p>From household items that are poisonous to pets and the food you feed yourself that pets should not eat to household products that are poisonous, there are so many very poisonous items that can pose great danger to pets, according to the ASPCA.org.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMacadamia nuts can cause weakness, depression, vomiting, tremors and hyperthermia in dogs,\u201d according to the article, \u201cPeople Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Pets\u201d at ASPCA.org. And signs typically appear within 12 hours. Then there\u2019s raw or undercooked meat, eggs, and bones. \u201cRaw meat and raw eggs can contain bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli that can be harmful to pets and humans,\u201d the ASPCA.org article said.<\/p>\n<p>If you fear your pet has gotten into anything toxic, call your veterinarian immediately. You can also call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
