Second Home Pet Resort

Resort Features

Resort Features
Designed with great thought and care, our 16,500 square foot facility is filled with special touches that assure your pet’s comfort and safety while staying with us:
  • Our facility is air-conditioned and heated. We do not use evaporative coolers (sometimes referred to as “swamp coolers”) which are inconsistent during periods of high humidity and do not produce the same level of home-like comfort to which your pet is accustomed.
  • Water-loving dogs will think our canine Splash & Play Water Park is the perfect activity for a hot summer day at the resort!  Designed just for dogs, our water park features water-side decks, submerged "sun shelves", a waterfall and a maximum 18" depth.  Only supervised play is allowed at the water park, where dogs both large and small are sure to enjoy the chance to cool off in the company of our trained resort activities coordinators.
  • Skylights are located throughout the resort, bathing animal areas in natural light.

  • Our resort is divided up into six individual dog “pavilions”, reducing the noise level and ensuring that all of our canine guests remain calm and relaxed. The pavilion design also allows each of our guest service attendants to give your pet the most personalized levels of service while in our care.

  • While spending time in our exercise yards, our 7’ high walls keep even the largest dogs safely enclosed. And, inside the resort you’ll find several layers of interior doors, assuring that our facility is more secure than most private homes.

  • In addition to 24-hour staffing (see Why We're Different), our facility also features fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and security monitoring devices, and our systems are monitored 24 hours a day.

  • Drive up under our covered entryway when dropping off or picking up your pet, to assure your pet’s paws aren’t burned on the hot Arizona pavement. Once outside temperatures rise above 85 degrees, tender paws can become scorched.

  • When not using our play yards for potty time, our covered outdoor exercise enclosures allow our guests to enjoy the fresh air and allow them to do their business “in private”, for those dogs who are a bit shy.
Service Features
  • Our animal guests enjoy the sound of calming rhythms, including smooth jazz and soft contemporary music, during their stay. Even animals who might be accustomed to the sounds of country, rap or rock music at home seem to enjoy these soothing melodies; the music also seems to relax anxious animals or chronic barkers, assuring a more relaxing stay for all.

  • We always recommend that you provide your pet's own food during a resort stay, as the consistency will be best for your pet's digestive system.  Please bring in your pet's regular dry food, pre-portioned in plastic bag, or your pet's canned food, and there is no additional charge. However, if you prefer that we feed our house diet instead, we proudly serve a premium Azmira holistic human-grade diet for both dogs and cats. We will gladly feed other specialty diets, subject to certain guidelines, for an additional fee.

  • A night attendant is on duty after our guest service attendants go home for the evening, and before our morning staff arrives, to secure our building and grounds for the safety of our guests. Our night attendant will quietly make rounds several times during the night attending to any special guest needs, administering bedtime medications, and taking care of any late-night suite housekeeping needs.

  • Two times just aren’t enough – each of our canine guests is taken outside a minimum of three times each day. See Why We're Different to learn more about the benefits of regular outdoor potty breaks while boarding your pet.

  • Our feline guests enjoy daily exercise in one of two cat play atriums located in our cat suite area. These atriums feature tall climbing trees, dangle toys, crinkle balls and balls with bells, scratching posts, and perches for surveying the cat resort area.

  • Each dog will enjoy a comfortable pet bed with a fluffy fleece cover, sized perfectly to fit the suite size and your pet’s size. And, each cat will receive a plush fleece bolster bed. For information about bringing your pet’s own bedding or toys, see Policies.

  • All water served to our guests is purified and filtered.

  • As in the finest of “people resorts”, every guest at Second Home Pet Resort will enjoy a complimentary evening “turndown treat” before bedtime. Our selection of special, low-calorie treats are all pet-safe, tasty, and are our special way of showing your pet that we care. After treats are given, usually around 9:00 pm, the lights are dimmed and all cats and dogs drift off into a peaceful sleep to dream about the next day’s resort activities.

  • Once your pet checks into her suite, she will typically keep the same suite location throughout her stay. However, on rare occasions a pet might not care for their neighbor, and so we monitor your pet’s comfort with her surroundings throughout the stay. If we believe that your pet would benefit from a different room that is located either closer to the action, or to a more secluded spot, we’ll always try to find the fit that makes your pet most comfortable. However, in most cases we will not change your pet’s room type without speaking with you first.
  • At Second Home Pet Resort we believe that in addition to outdoor exercise and any interactive services you may have selected for your pet, pets in boarding environments need in-suite enrichment activities as well.  These activities provide comfort, enjoyment and mental stimulation during your pet's stay at our resort.  Periodically during your pet's stay we provide a treat-stuffed dog or kitty kong or popcicle treat and the introduction of new comfort or activity-based toys that stimulate your pet's curiosity or problem-solving instincts or bring comfort to younger or older pets.
