Animal Community and Links
Second Home Pet Resort is a proud supporter of the animal
welfare community. As residents of Maricopa County, we live in the 4th largest county in the United States, based on our population
size. However, sadly, Maricopa County ranks #2 (with Los Angeles County being #1) as having the largest shelter animal intake
in the country.
In 2007, more than 100,000 animals were taken in by local shelters and rescue groups –
that’s a minimum of 273 animals entering the shelter system each day, just here in our community. Of those, less
than half will make it out alive.
Animal welfare organizations face an uphill battle with limitations on space,
funding, and interested adopters. Nationally, less than 14% of pet parents adopted their pet from a shelter or rescue group
– it’s a statistic we hope to have a small role in changing in the future.
To this end, we partner
with local animal welfare organizations to increase awareness, encourage pet adoptions, and raise much-needed funds for their
programs.
Pogo’s Place Adoption Center Inspired by a very special little Beagle named Pogo, Pogo’s Place is a collaboration between Second
Home Pet Resort and area animal welfare organizations. Located just off of our lobby, Pogo’s Place
could be where you meet your next cherished friend! At various times throughout the year, Pogo’s
Place is used by animal welfare organizations to host remote adoption events and can house up to 5 dogs and 8 cats.
We are strong supporters of the animal welfare community and hope you’ll consider adoption when you're ready
to add another dog or cat to your family! Kooper's World Have you ever considered adopting a rescued pet but just weren't
sure? We thought you'd enjoy learning more about one of our most favorite rescue dogs ever; a very special
blind and deaf Australian shepherd named "Kooper". Read Kooper's story and see how, every day,
he demonstrates how any pet can overcome challenges when he's loved and given the chance to learn, grow and experience
all the richness that life has to offer! Animal Welfare Links Here are a few links to organizations
we think you’d like to know about – not all are focused on companion animals, but certainly the mission of each
is to improve the wellbeing of the animals with whom we share our world. We hope you’ll enjoy learning about these wonderful
organizations and take the time to get involved with your talents, time and philanthropy.
